It all started in the 1950s when a man by the name of Sam Marino became infatuated with the theater. Not being one to relish in the world of acting, but totally enthralled in the mechanics of the show; Sam discovered his challenge and love in life- “Stage Lighting”.
Quitting his job at the family fish company, Sam purchased lighting and stage equipment that set him out on his new endeavor. He began providing stage lighting to all of Tampa Bay’s theaters, hence, Bay Stage Lighting Company.
As Sam’s vision and business flourished in the 1970’s; his God daughter, Yvonne Felicione, worked the front desk and her then, boyfriend, soon to be husband, Brian Justo worked in the warehouse. The couple grew to love the business just as Sam did.
In the late 90’s, Sam’s health and interest in this business began to deteriorate. He came to the conclusion that he had worked hard enough and it was time to sell the business. In 1998, Yvonne and Brian Justo purchased the company to keep Sam’s Bay Stage Lighting vision alive.
Quickly, the Bay Stage Lighting name became well- known throughout the country as one of the largest stage lighting rental companies.
Since then, Bay Stage Lighting has grown immensely. They relocated from their original site of 7,000 sq. ft. to a 15,000 sq. ft. warehouse with a separate office building.
In 2007, Bay Stage Lighting celebrated 50 spectacular years of business. One year later in 2008, the Justo Family celebrated 10 years of owning Bay Stage Lighting.
Sam Marino, Founding Father of Bay Stage, passed away on December 7, 2009 at the age of 81.
